Service Above Self

At Boise Sunrise Rotary Club, we embrace the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. We add to this our own club slogan of Striving to Leave it Better Than We Found It.

We are a group of community leaders who are involved in numerous high value community projects. We distribute dictionaries to every third grader at 10 separate Boise elementary schools. We are the leading club on the highly effective and successful Everyday Leadership program serving 4th and 5th grade students at 6 different Boise schools. Boise Sunrise is the primary supporter of Hope House in Marsing. And in 2019, we made 26 separate grants to non-profit organizations in and around the Treasure Valley for a total of $35,000.

We also focus our efforts on a number of international projects. Every year, Boise Sunrise sponsors an Inbound and an Outbound Youth Exchange student. We have taken the lead on various projects in and around the Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. We have been leaders in supporting the work of the impressive NGO Semilla Nueva who is developing and deploying a unique market based strategy to address chronic malnutrition in Guatemala with bio-fortified corn.

We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 – 8:00 AM at The Riverside Hotel in Boise but, for now, we are meeting virtually only via Zoom. Our membership roster includes 5 former District Governors within Rotary’s District 5400. The last two committee chairmen for Rotary’s Youth Exchange program in D5400 came from Boise Sunrise. And we arguably have the biggest and most effective Idaho fundraiser in Lobsterfest. We have invited over 20 D5400 clubs to participate in this effort because it has proved so successful.

We are committed to our service work at Boise Sunrise. We greatly enjoy each other’s company as high character high performance and low drag community minded individuals.
